next best thing!!

I don't know if you have been following the Anonymous/LulzSec or not but this is the gist of what i can take from it.
Anonymous is a group of hackers who appear to target groups or organizations who they don't agree with. they do this on a large enough scale to get media attention, but not enough to cause any lasting damage. LulzSec, on the other hand are a small group of defected Anonymous members, (possible have rejoined) who wanted to go on a six week rampage across the internet. They have caused damage and outages to high profile web sites including government ones.
they have a keen following, with a positive attitude to what they have 'achieved'. i have 3 questions.

why have a group of tech geeks got the ability to hack into the CIA, SOCA and other high level government and commercial sites?
why do people find this admirable, aliking them to a modern day robbing hood or just a mear skally wag??
why are these sites not better defended against this type of attack? is it money,  not enough to employ the 'top guys'. or the people truly dedicate to the pushing of the boundaries  of what is capable through the online world not driven by monetary value but a different set of priorities.

i only wish that Ben Merzrich would get involved and show a true and account account of what just happened in the past 30 days|!
